For Lockheed Martin Prepar3D Academic (1.4 through v3.4 hotfix 3)
Please see system requirements below for important compatibility info before purchase!

Fully Combat Capable: Superbug for Prepar3D Academic is a professional-level, fully combat capable F/A-18E aircraft simulation. The Superbug and required TacPack combat system, work together to bring dedicated aerial combat and ground attack capability to life for the first time in Prepar3D Academic. The Academic version of the Superbug/TacPack is intended for non-commercial domestic use (please see EULA*). If you are a commercial, institutional, or government entity seeking to use the Superbug and/or TacPack for commerce, training, or other public venues, please contact us for more information on how to obtain a commercial-use license.

Uncompromising Realism: VRS has created a truly remarkable and faithful reproduction of the U.S. Navy's front-line strike fighter. Crafted by a small, dedicated team of developers who also happen to be engineers in real life, the Superbug provides what we believe is by far the most comprehensive overall simulation of ANY combat aircraft ever created for any Flight Simulator derivative. The Superbug is the culmination of almost 10 years of work dating back to FS2004, and continues to be supported with frequent releases. From avionics to weapon systems, if it's in the real aircraft, it's probably in this simulation! VRS regularly receives input from active and retired F/A-18 pilots as well as aircraft maintainers serving with the U.S. Navy and Australian Air Force. We have continuously leveraged these invaluable friendships and resources for or almost a decade in order to bring you the most realistic experience possible.

Feature Rich, with Constant Updates: Features include multiplayer-capable weapon, radar, transponder (team-based), countermeasure, and early warning systems that function seamlessly within Prepar3D by leveraging the proven power of the TacPack (required, and sold separately). The Superbug has been available for FSX for a number of years prior to its availability for Prepar3D, and is the single best-selling military aircraft of all time for Microsoft Flight Simulator. The Superbug has been continually updated and improved upon since its initial introduction for Flight Simulator 2004, and continues to be updated regularly with significant new features and fixes. Your investment in the Superbug/TacPack is an investment in the future of military aircraft simulation for the Prepar3D platform.

The Superbug is the first (and only) true 3-axis fly-by-wire combat aircraft designed for P3D. The flight control system is not a "fly-by-wire-like" CAS, it's a completely dynamic, fully control-law-dependent proportional system driving a single (ordinance independent) neutrally-statically-stable base flight model. The FBW system extends to 100% custom autopilot functions.

Aircraft Configuration Manager (ACM): The Superbug includes a very powerful external application referred to as the ACM, which may be used to manage aircraft systems and simulation preferences. The ACM provides functions to maintain and edit saved loadouts (weapon sets), program the Mission Unit (MU), set initial fuel loads, and even arm failures. Aircraft preferences are also available for everything from avionic to graphic options. Finally, the ACM can gather and export vital logging information about the state of the Superbug and the simulation in case help is needed diagnosing a support issue.

Leveraging the Power of the TacPack: The Superbug for P3D requires the TacPack for P3D. The F/A-18E aircraft simulation is built from the ground-up to utilize TacPack SDK functions, and cannot function without the underlying TacPack functionality. The TacPack is literally the foundation upon which the Superbug's lethal tactical systems and more are built. For more information about the TacPack and what it offers both end-users and developers, please refer to the TacPack product page.

Proven History: The Superbug is the recipient of multiple awards including the coveted Avsim Gold Star, PC Pilot Magazine's Platinum award, and the 2011 SimFlight Award for Best Military Aircraft. These are the highest review awards available in their respective mediums. If you've tried military aircraft for MSFS before, and they've left a bad taste in your mouth, give the Superbug a try and see why VRS has been called "The PMDG/Level-D of military addons. Explore all the Superbug has to offer by selecting a topic from the left, below. We think you'll agree, the depth of the simulation is second to none, making this an investment you can be proud to add to your collection.

*Please note that the Superbug EULA and the Lockheed Martin Prepar3D EULA are separate entities and not related in any way.
Please consult the P3D EULA in order to establish your compliance under those terms.

  • Lockheed Martin Prepar3D Academic v1.4 through v3.4 hotfix 3 ONLY
  • Note that any builds of P3D greater than those listed above will NOT work unless/until VRS releases a compatible patch
  • P3D Professional and Pro Plus NOT supported (P3D Pro commercial nquiries welcomed, please contact sales)
  • Requires TacPack P3D
  • Microsoft Windows 7 (32/64-bit) through Windows 10 (32/64-bit)
  • Microsoft .NET framework 3.5 Note that .NET is a "side-by-side" installation, which means .NET 3.5 must still be installed, even if a later version such as 4 or 4.5 is already present
  • Multi-player
    • Due to certain incompatibilities and limitations of multi-player sessions, not all animations and/or features may function identically to single-player modes
    • Internet required for automatic product activation. Manual activation may be performed from an online secondary device
    • Automatic activation requires firewall access to outgoing ports 80 and 443
    • Secure proxies must be disabled for automatic activation

    Important Additional Notes:

    • Joystick mandatory. Full HOTAS (separate stick and throttle), and rudder pedals are highly recommended in order to enjoy this product to its fullest potential
    • Force feedback NOT supported. The FBW system does not currently support P3D force feedback. If you have a force feedback stick, the FF function must be disabled in P3D There is a working (and better)  alternative to P3D force feedback here
    • PFC (brand) throttle quadrants are NOT supported due to a proprietary interface. These units to not enumerate through P3D and are therefore incompatible
